How to make Cat’s Head Tuna Pies

Ingredients:

  • 1 bag puff pastry
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tins of tuna (salt water)
  • 1/2 cup Mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon zest

Directions:

  1. Set the oven to 375 degrees F / 190 °C
  2. In a bowl, mix together the tuna, mayonnaise and lemon zest. Mix to combine and mash up the tuna into smaller pieces with a fork.
  3. Roll out the pie dough to a 2 mm thickness. Use a cookie cutter to cut out 20 cat head shapes.
  4. Set half of the cut pie pieces to the side. Brush the border of the remaining pieces with egg wash. Spoon 1-2 tablespoons of the tuna pie filling into the center of each. Top them with the remaining pie dough pieces.
  5. Press the edges together with the tines of a fork to seal.
  6. Place the pies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  7. Bake 20-22 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool for at least 10 minutes before eating.
