The Cats Of Mount Nelson Hotel In Cape Town

Nestled in a timeless royal pink aesthetic with breathtaking views of Table Mountain, Mount Nelson offers its afternoon high tea on the lounge porch, where the charming antics of the colony of cats in the gardens of the hotel infuse a touch of feline finesse into the experience.

A Cat Called Nellie

“Tea at the Nellie” pays homage to Nellie, the black feline who reigns as the Mount Nelson’s beloved house cat. A local feline celebrity and permanent VIP guest, Nellie spends his days lounging on a sunlit lawn chair or cozied up by the fire in the Lord Nelson Room. ⁣Always hopeful for a spoon of clotted cream during Afternoon Tea, Nellie the cat is part of the feline tapestry of the pink palace of the Mother City.⁣

Mount Nelson also has an amiable ginger cat roaming around the gardens of the property, pleasantly friendly towards guests. Ready to be a tiny cat tour guide, allowing me to follow behind him as he leads me to the back garden of the hotel to chase some squirrels in a tree.

With more than 60 leaf teas, delicious blends of coffee and my personal favourite, the hibiscus tea. Serve it with sweet and savoury snacks and desserts which makes this experience phenomenal.

Located at 76 Orange St, Gardens, Cape Town.
